On friday night I attended what's called the Night of Celebration, which is basically and end of year party for the Spina Bifida Association here in Victoria, Australia of which I'm a member. Anyway, one of the organisers asked if she could put some of my pics on display. Enormously flattered, I said yes.
I got there with my better half, looked around..and there was a display of my work. Dear fellow deviate, I can't tell you how proud I was. Oh, I know it's nothing, just filling up a wall, and trying to illustrate the point that disability doesn't mean you have to sit twiddling your thumbs. But it was still an enormous buzz to see my pics, and to have people tell me they liked them. But better was to come..and better still.
There were other pics on display, portraits of foundation members. Someone asked me if I had done those. I replied no, and pointed to mine.
"Oh," she said, "you did the creative stuff..."
On the way out, one of the foundation board members grabbed me.
"We must see about showing your work, Mike" she said.
"No, not good enough", I replied
"Nonsense! A friend of mine runs an art gallery, she quite often shows friend's work.I'll talk to her. Bye!"
I need all the crossed fingers I can get, boys and girls.
